Annex XIII Fields Explained

Updated 2026-04Essential reading

Required Fields

These fields must be completed for a valid Digital Product Passport under Annex XIII of the EU Battery Regulation.

Manufacturer Name

The legal name of the company that manufactured the battery.

  • Format: Text
  • Example: "PowerCell GmbH"

Manufacturing Date

The date the battery was manufactured.

  • Format: YYYY-MM-DD
  • Example: 2026-01-15

Manufacturing Place

The location (city, country) where the battery was manufactured.

  • Format: Text
  • Example: "Stuttgart, Germany"

Battery Category

The regulatory category of the battery.

  • Values: EV | Industrial | LMT | SLI
  • EV: Electric vehicle traction batteries
  • Industrial: Stationary energy storage, industrial applications
  • LMT: Light means of transport (e-bikes, e-scooters)
  • SLI: Starting, lighting, ignition (automotive starter batteries)

Battery Weight (kg)

Total weight of the battery in kilograms.

  • Format: Number (decimal allowed)
  • Example: 450.5

Battery Status

Current lifecycle status of the battery.

  • Values: Original | Repurposed | Reused | Remanufactured | Waste

Rated Capacity (Ah)

The rated capacity in ampere-hours. Found on the battery specification sheet.

  • Format: Number
  • Example: 75

Voltage โ€” Nominal, Minimum, Maximum (V)

The nominal operating voltage, and the minimum/maximum voltage range.

  • Format: Number
  • Example: Nominal: 400, Min: 320, Max: 450

Carbon Footprint Total (kg CO2e)

Total lifecycle carbon footprint in kilograms of CO2 equivalent.

  • Format: Number
  • Example: 5200
โ„น๏ธCarbon footprint methodology

The Battery Regulation requires lifecycle assessment covering raw material extraction, manufacturing, and transport as defined in the delegated act on carbon footprint (EU 2024/1355). Third-party verification is recommended for carbon values above the A-class threshold.

Recycled Content (%)

Percentage of recycled material for cobalt, lithium, nickel, and lead.

  • Format: Number (0โ€“100)
  • Example: Cobalt: 16%, Lithium: 6%, Nickel: 6%, Lead: 85%

Optional Fields

Energy Density (Wh/kg)

Energy per unit mass. Calculate as: (Rated capacity in Wh) รท (Battery weight in kg).

Expected Lifetime

  • Cycles: Number of charge/discharge cycles. Example: 3000
  • Years: Expected calendar lifetime. Example: 10

Carbon Footprint Performance Class

Classification from A (best) to D (worst) based on EU thresholds.

Battery Chemistry

The cathode chemistry type.

  • Values: LFP | NMC | NCA | LTO

Hazardous Substances
