Activating a Passport
Activating a passport generates the GS1 Digital Link QR code, makes the passport visible on the public viewer, and locks certain fields from further editing. This is the step that turns a draft into a live, scannable passport.
What activation does
When you activate a passport:
- The GS1 Digital Link QR code is generated using the passport's GTIN and passport number.
- The passport becomes visible on the public DPP viewer โ anyone scanning the QR code can see the passport data.
- The passport status changes from Draft to Active.
- Certain fields are permanently locked: GTIN, passport number, battery category, and passport level.
Prerequisites
Before you can activate, the passport must have all required fields completed. DPP Cloud checks this automatically โ if any required field is empty, the Activate button is disabled and a message shows which fields need attention.
The minimum required fields for activation are:
- Battery category (set at creation).
- Product name, GTIN, and passport number (Step 2 of the wizard).
- All mandatory Annex XIII fields in the Technical Data section (Step 3).
How to activate
๐ธ Draft state with activate button
Open the passport detail page
Navigate to the passport you want to activate. It must be in Draft status.
Review the data
Check that all Annex XIII fields are correct. Pay particular attention to the GTIN โ it cannot be changed after activation.
Click Activate Passport
The button is at the top of the passport detail page. DPP Cloud will run a final validation check.
Confirm activation
A confirmation dialog explains that activation is irreversible. Click Confirm to proceed.
๐ธ Active state with QR
Once activated, the passport detail page updates to show the Active status badge, the GS1 Digital Link QR code, and a Download QR Code button.
Once activated, a passport cannot be returned to Draft status. The GS1 Digital Link QR code is permanently generated and the GTIN is locked. If you need to make changes to locked fields, you must revoke the passport and create a new one. Review all data carefully before activating.
What you can still edit after activation
Some fields remain editable on Active passports โ these are fields that may legitimately change over the battery's lifecycle:
- Performance data (if updated test results are available).
- Supply chain actors (if the supply chain changes).
- Compliance documents (if new certificates are obtained).
- Carbon footprint (if a revised LCA is completed).
Fields that are permanently locked: GTIN, passport number, battery category, passport level, and manufacturer name.
